Fatih Kenber & Dame Julia King

Interview

Julia King, Baroness Brown of Cambridge, has a distinguished background in academia and business. She spent sixteen years as a researcher and university lecturer at Cambridge and Nottingham universities before joining Rolls-Royce in 1994 where she held a number of senior executive appointments.

​

In 2002 Julia became Chief Executive of the Institute of Physics, and two years later returned to academia as Principal of the Engineering Faculty at Imperial College, London. In December 2006 she became Vice-Chancellor of Aston University. A former member of the Board of the Department of Business Innovation and Skills, An Airports Commission Commissioner and now a member of Lord Stern’s review of the REF, Julia regularly advises Government on education and technology issues.

She is a non-executive director of the Green Investment Bank and a member of the Committee on Climate Change. She was elevated to the Peerage in 2015, as Baroness Brown of Cambridge, and sits as a crossbencher.

Fatih Kenber & Prof. Dr Hakan Gürsu

Interview

Industrial Designer Hakan Gürsu graduated from Middle East Technical University Industrial Design Department in 1984 in first rank and completed his master degree in Architecture and PhD in City Regional Planning.  He  continued  his  profession  in  various  projects  in  product  design,  interior, architecture and city planning and in diverse centers including Russia and Japan. In 1991, Japanese Industrial Design Association deemed him worthy of the ‘Pioneer of Design’ award. His product and space designs received several honors and accolades. DESIGNNOBIS Design / Innovation firm that he founded in 2006 is selected among Turkey’s Top 40 Entrepreneur Firms. He’s been honored in world’s prestigious design competitions by winning over 200 design awards within 12 years and made Turkey rank second in World Design Rankings held in EU.

 

He  contributed  to  several  national  and  international  organizations  as  a  speaker  on  innovation, creative thinking, design and R&D, including TEDx, Intel, Coca Cola, IBM and World Bank. His book “Innovation”that reflects upon his experience on the area was published in 2014. Consecutively, he was honored as “Designer of the Year” by International Association of Designers in Milano. Ranging from boats, toys and furniture to consumer electronics, his environmentally friendly and visionary projects are introducing unusual solutions to common problems. Gürsu continues to train design students at METU.

Omer Hiziroglu is the managing partner of TLS.IP, an IP and innovation management firm, providing services to R&D-intensive corporations, research institutions and technology transfer offices, law firms and M&A and private equity funds. TLS.IP is focused on IP and innovation portfolio management, transactional and legal advisory services, including litigation support, as well as IP valuation for IP-based transactions.

Mr Hiziroglu has a track record of delivering high-quality strategic advisory services to identify, manage and maximise the value of intellectual assets in a transformative process in line with corporate business goals.

Before TLS.IP, Mr Hiziroglu was a senior partner with Diffusion Capital Partners, an early-stage technology investment fund of €35 million based in Amsterdam. Formerly, he was the general manager of Inovent, the technology transfer fund of Sabanci University, which was the first of its kind in the country. He is a founding member of the Galata Business Angels Network, the first angel network in Turkey, and past vice president and board member of the Licensing Executives Society International. He is a member of the Istanbul, New York and Massachusetts Bars.

Interview

Claire is an expert on Government policies and affairs, regulatory frameworks for energy and infrastructure and international trade issues.

Three years as Vice President, Regional Executive for Europe for Energy and Construction at URS Corporation. Developed strategies for URS Corporation in the key sectors of nuclear new build, decommissioning and fuel management, unconventional oil and gas, integrated infrastructure provision.

​

Previously Claire had 22 highly successful years with the UK National Government. Director of policy on security of energy supplies, safety and security of nuclear energy; Director and lead UK negotiator on international trade. Director level work in key policy areas including energy and climate change, where she set the regulatory framework for OFGEM, negotiated international pipeline developments and major import facilities, and the regulatory regime for nuclear safety and security. In international trade she led negotiations of the Doha round Free Trade Agreements with India, Korea and others, and was responsible for policies and strategies on Europe, including Single Market and European commercial integration and trade policies. Previous responsibilities include legislation on competition and consumer issues, regulatory affairs for labour market and the benefits system.
